With the transition in Spain, the transition to a parliamentary democracy and the founding of the Autonomous Communities, the political tensions between the clubs and, above all, their supporters decreased somewhat. When the Madrilenians subsequently reached the final, they had to play against Athletic Bilbao in Barcelona. There is also the opinion that Di Stéfano, who was unconvincing in some friendly games for Real Madrid during the transfer dispute, deliberately performed poorly in the preparatory games in order to persuade Barcelona to give up. In 2008, FC Barcelona were humiliated in multiple ways during the second leg of the classic in Madrid. Barcelona met Real Madrid at home in the second leg of the Copa del Rey quarter-finals after the capital city team won the first leg 2-0.
